Economy & Finance
The research area focuses on the micro and macro economy, economic development and public finance in Poland and in the EU. Global economic processes including the consequences of the financial and economic crisis are also subjected to analysis. Currently, the most important issue from the perspective of the EU is the allocation of finances in the new budget – in 2013 and down the line. Also formulated are analyses of sector policy connected to the standard business of the EU, such as cohesion policy, a Common Agricultural Policy, industrial policy, transport.
Furthermore, the Institute’s research also focuses on the economical-financial restructuring of strategic sectors of the economy, tax system reform, the removal of bottlenecks in the economic development process and the removal of legal and institutional barriers that are faced by entrepreneurs and enterprises.
The Institute also evaluates possible scenarios of development in Poland on a macroeconomic level. Keeping in mind Poland’s eventual accession to the euro zone, this research is conducted via a monitoring of the degree to which Euro convergence criteria are fulfilled by the state. Here, the Institute concentrates mostly on fiscal austerity, currently a basic obstacle in meeting the convergence criteria. The Institute also assesses the risk to the Polish economy of adopting a common currency by taking into consideration risks after entering ERM2 (the antechamber of the euro zone).
